Back in Q4 2012 - Q1 2013, Command & Conquer Generals 2 was still under development, albeit it had been turned into a Free-To-Play game. The game, being a sequel to 2003's C&C Generals, would bring back some of the factions from the original. The main 3 factions would be the GLA, Asian-Pacific Alliance (China) and European Union. Other factions, such as Russia, India and the USA, would eventually be added to the game, after launch. EA Victory Games had set up in their offices some moodboards for the factions of the game: APA/China, the GLA, the EU and the US Army, as well. Their moodboards inspired me to design the USA faction from the ground up and share the design document with the developers. Ultimately, I was surprised to see how many ideas we had in common for the faction.
US Faction Visual Design Philosophy:
Main Color: Slate Grey/Dark Grey
Secondary Color: Gold/Yellow (Utility vehicles & buildings, workers, etc.)
Tertiary Color: Blue (Player Color)
Overall Design Philosophy: Angular, high-tech futuristic yet simplistic and clean (no clutter). Uniform designs, no variation when it comes to unit visuals. Cameras for vehicles and air units (drones). Infantry helmets cover their entire faces and have augmented vision and AR. Hexagonal shapes and digital camo, a possibility.
Technologies: Drones (UAVs and UGVs), Modular Buildings, Stealth, Supersonic Aircraft, Smart Weapons, Powered Armor, Nanotechnology, Lasers
