Halo Wars - Player Color Test

How does one choose where player color / team color should be put on an asset? This here was a sort of test, or exploration, to see if the end result worked well. The player color on an asset should accentuate certain important parts of the asset, without it being a solid unicolored blob nor taking away from readability.

In this case, I used an image of an old Cyclops asset from Halo Wars' development. The original asset was done by an artist at Ensemble Studios in the late 2000s. The player color blends differently depending on the rest of the texture and color on the asset. but still remains overall visible enough for a player to discern to whom the Cyclops belongs to, without being too hard on the eyes, unlike what we may see in certain RTS games.
